Inspirational Graphic Design From Past Masters

As a designer, and artist in general, I'm always looking for inspiration and today's inspiration comes from an article written fastcodesign.com entitled "10 Crucial Lessons From History's Greatest Graphic Designers". Its always good to gain inspiration from today's designers and innovative thinkers, but it is also good to study upon the works of past masters and learn from what they learned. Nestle/Cailler Project

While in Switzerland, Nestle Inc. gave us the task of re-branding, re-designing, and create a marketing campaign for L'originale Branche chocolate for their subsidiary Cailler Chocolate. As a team of designers, artists, and business experts, we came up with a strategy that made an emotional connection with both past and present generations that have always enjoyed the Branche. Nestle was impressed with our ideas and is in the process of incorporating some of our ideas.

Tapping into the Swiss culture and the demographic we were given, we made a series of poster/ads that represented enjoying the chocolate year round, it was a chocolate for every season. We also incorporated "Swiss Scherenschnitte" or swiss paper cutting techniques to make a nostalgic connection while also representing family type activities people can do year round.

We also designed new packaging, point of sale stands and train trolley ads to market the products.

On a corporate level we suggested that they get celebrity endorsement from none other than Swiss icon Roger Federer.

Lastly we suggested that since Mcdonald's in Switzerland already uses Cailler chocolate for there Mcflurry shakes, that they also start to sell the Branche chocolate.

You just Graduated, what are you going to do next?

FREEDOM! I didn't think the day would come but I graduated finally with my BFA in Art and Graphic design from Utah State University. We were able to show case our work as a class with the annual BFA Exhibition. After that it was smooth sailing off into the unknown "real world". I've learned so much in my college career and now I am ready to tackle new challenges and discover new experiences.

Downtown Logan Business Competition

Well, over the final year of my college career, I fill my skills have truly blossomed as a designer. As one of our last projects, we chose three businesses in downtown Logan, Utah and created posters, pamphlets, and designed website interfaces for the said companies. The project truly taught us how to work together as a team with designers and photographers each art directing a project. Below are some samples of the work we did for a swim shop and a sports store. The photography was done by Josh Munns. 

Caine College of the Arts Poster

This poster was designed as a gift to the donors that give freely to the Caine College of the Arts here at Utah State University. It symbolizes the four parts of the college running together as one.

Dust In The Wind

While playing around with a publication I was working on, I ran across this photo. When I saw the image, the quote came to mind immediately from one of my favorite movies.

Dashin' Dewey Website

This website was done using actionscript 3.0 and a little HTML/CSS. The goal of this site development was to create a flash game for children between the ages of 3-5. I had to do research as to how someone of that age navigates a site/game on the internet to play it. I tried to make it functional, easy to use as well as fun to play. It was a challenge to try and design to that demographic but it was fun. Check it out!

Personal Branding Publication

This is part of a 30 page publication that I just finished. I had to find a unique quality or characteristic that I possess and brand myself around that idea. I tried to stylize the publication with many different type and image relationships while keeping the thread of an extrinsic life, running throughout the publication. The publication also includes part of my portfolio. I used stock images as well as my own to personalize the brand. Here are a few samples of some of the spreads.

Motos Y Motores Logos

These are logos I made for a venture motorcycle sales company based in Havana Cuba. They are a sleek new company that fixes old motorcycles and sales them to the public. Motorcycles and scooters are rare in Cuba because of their price but an extremely useful commodity.

I had the awesome opportunity to explore Switzerland a few summers ago and here are a few rad photos i took. The beauty was there all I had to do was capture it.
